    Hear | Together piano festival

    10 am to 7 pm

    Crowden Music Center, 1475 Rose Street, Berkeley

    Sarah is one of eight pianists in a free day-long outdoor piano festival, featuring a diverse range of genres and styles of piano music.  Beginning at 10 am with students from the Crowden School, the day proceeds with two pianos at two outdoor locations, performed by Monica Chew, Elizabeth Dorman, Tammy Hall (with Leberta Lorál), Marcos Silva, Allegra Chapman, Dylan Mattingly, and then Sarah at 4 pm, performing selections from Frederic Rzewski’s new Humanitas, Margaret Bonds’ Troubled Water, Paul Dresher’s Two Entwined, Mary Watkins’ Summer Days, Gabriela Lena Frank’s Barcarola Latinoamericana, and unpublished works by Lou Harrison.  The day concludes with Dylan Mattingly’s epic work Achilles Dreams of Ebbets Field, performed by Robert Fleitz.  Tickets, which are free but by reservation, are at eventbrite.com.   The concert is presented by a consortium of non-profit arts organizations, including Alternating Currents, the Crowden Music Center, New Music Bay Area, the Ross McKee Foundation, and Contemporaneous.

    A preview of a feature about Sarah on Arium, a new online classical music platform which involves “musical storytelling” by classical musicians around the world.  Launching in July, Arium pairs musicians and filmmakers and top-notch audio engineers in elegant locations and brings their stories to this new subscription platform.

    Theresa Wong and San Francisco Girls Chorus

    On her radio show Revolutions Per Minute, Sarah speaks with composer Theresa Wong, music director Valérie Saint-Agathe, and singers from the San Francisco Girls Chorus about a remarkable new composition by Wong, composed for the chorus and Sarah.  The new work, in several movements, uses texts and other material by the singers, about their experiences during the pandemic lockdown.  The first movement will be broadcast on this program.  It was recorded via JackTrip, with all the singers, Saint-Agathe, and Sarah in different locations.  Revolutions Per Minute is 8 to 10 pm on Sunday evenings at KALW.

    Sri Moonshine series

    In celebration of Terry Riley’s birthday on June 24th, Sarah performs on Riley’s own historic Kingsbury upright outside the Camptonville Community Center as part of the Sri Moonshine summer series.  Works by Riley on the program include Be Kind to One AnotherThe Walrus in MemoriamFandango on the Heaven LadderVenus in 94, and other works.  This concert, for a small invited audience, will be livestreamed.

    Sarah Cahill returns to Old First Concerts to perform rarely-heard works by Baroque composer Anna Bon, Leokadiya Kashperova (best known as Stravinsky’s piano teacher), Ajerbaijani composer Frangiz Ali-Zadeh, American composer and civil rights activist Zenobia Powell Perry, and Hungarian composer-pianist Agi Jambor, who survived a harrowing escape from Nazi-occupied Europe and dedicated her Piano Sonata to the victims of Auschwitz. Also on Sarah’s program are selections from Madeleine Dring’s Colour Suite and Hannah Kendall’s On the Chequer’d Field Array’d, a musical depiction of a chess game.
